Welcome to The Quiet Rich, your weekly method for a quiet mind and a rich life. Today, you’ll get the framework that helped me realize I was ready to quit my job and go all-in on my business.
CONTEXT
“To be a successful creator, you don’t need millions. You don’t need millions of dollars or millions of customers … or millions of fans.”
That’s the opening line of a lovely essay called 1,000 True Fans by Kevin Kelly.
His point? No one needs a huge audience to start a thriving business or side hustle! You need a small, loyal audience who genuinely wants to buy things from you.
A "true fan" is someone who loves everything you launch. The course. The coaching session. The live event. They show up every time.
Here's the math:
1,000 true fans × $1,000 per year = $1 million per year.
Read that again! If you want to make 7 figures, you need a thousand followers who are willing to spend $1,000.
And here's the cool thing. No matter how ridiculously niche your interests are, there are at least 1,000 people out there who share them. Even if only 1 in a million people cared about your topic (a really low bar lol), that's still ~8,000 people worldwide.
Let's build yours. 👇
METHOD
Step 1: Define your "one in a million"
Grab a pen and paper. Write down the one specific person you can help most.
Not "leaders." More like: "first-time managers at tech companies who feel like imposters." Not “people who work out” but “new moms who want to learn strength-training.”
Then answer two questions: What problem keeps them up at night? What would they happily pay to solve it?
The more specific you get, the faster the right people. will recognize themselves in your work.

Step 2: Build your $1,000 product ladder
You need enough offers so each true fan can spend $1,000 per year with you.
Map out your ladder:
- Free: posts, newsletter, podcast (how fans find you)
- Low-ticket ($20–50): ebook, template, workshop
- Mid-ticket ($100–500): course, membership, cohort
- High-ticket ($1,000+): coaching, consulting, retreats
Don't have all of these yet? Good. Start with ONE paid offer.
You can always adjust the dials: add new products, raise your prices, or grow your fanbase.
—
Step 3: Build real relationships
Ideally you want to reach your fans directly (so no distributor is taking a cut).
Social media is where fans discover you. And an email newsletter (like this one) is where you can form really deep relationships.
I read and respond to every single email reply you send me, and it absolutely makes my day.
Your first 1,000 fans start with your first 10. Reply to every comment. DM the people who engage most and ask what they're struggling with. Offer a free 15-min call to learn what they need.
Those conversations will tell you exactly what to build next. (And people never forget the founder who took the time to write back.)
CLOSING THOUGHTS
I always tell my Archimedes members: the goal is not to have the most followers. The goal is to have the right followers (who genuinely want to buy what you offer).
This framework is what gave me the courage to leave Google. For a long time, I thought I needed a massive following before I could go full-time on my business. So I kept waiting for some big, viral moment.
But Kelly's math changed the question. It wasn't "How many people follow me?" It was "How many people truly care about what I make?"
Once I had a critical mass of true fans (people who showed up for everything I created), I knew I was ready to go all in on my coaching, keynotes, and sponsorships with brands I love.
It all starts with winning the hearts and minds of 1,000 true fans. And always remember to thank the people who've been there since day one.
All my love,
Jade
P.S. Not sure where to build your 1,000 true fans? I’d start with LinkedIn. It’s the friendliest neighborhood with such high-quality folks. Growing on there is how I got promoted at Google, launched my coaching business, and then landed my dream book deal. I’ll teach you my proven system in Archimedes.
I launched it 3 years ago with Ben Meer to share exactly how we grew such wonderful and loyal audiences. Read the member reviews and FAQs at JoinArchimedes.com. 🔥 Our next cohort starts November 16th, and there are only 2 weeks left to get the discounted price.
